(before I begin I want to apologize for all of the typos in the first two posts... I was pooped and didn't proofread as you all could probably tell!)
So the next morning we woke up bright and early and saw everyone off to their final destinations. Marcy (from Kentucky, goes to school in West Virgina), Kristen (from New Mexico, goes to school in Colorado CSU) and I are stationed in Cairns so we were lucky enough not to have to catch another flight! We got a maxi taxi over to the sharehouse office and got all set up for our new living arrangements. However, we were sadly informed that Sam and Betsy, two more australearn interns coming at the end of June, whom we thought were staying in the same place as us are not in our apartment within the sharehouse! BUMMER but this means that we have other people already living in our apartment... There is a couple from Scotland upstairs and a 16 year old boy from a little south of Cairns. Brendon and Cheryl are in their early 30's and very nice, Brendon is the friendlier of the two and loves to chit chat with us. Michael is the boy and he is up in Cairns taking carpentry classes during the week and returns home on the weekends. Michael is really fun to talk to and knows a lot about the area. I think that it is easier to connect with him because the age difference is not to far apart.
Our first day in our house we got all settled in and walked around the town only to stumble upon.... MCDONALDS!! Looks like i will definitely survive, seeing as they have my favorite place right here in town-let alone walking distance! The second day, we woke up early to go shopping for food and some necessities. While in TARGET, yes they have target too :], I found myself separated from the girls and lost! I was soooo nervous and after looking for them for about ten minutes I felt sheer terror running through my veins! We hadn't exchanged numbers yet so how and the heck was I supposed to find them?? Finally I hear a beautiful word said in a southern accent, my name, Marcy had found me! Whewwww
Once back home and settled again it was time to figure out our ways to work and that meant tackling the public transportation system! We walked about 10 minutes to the bus station we needed and hopped on the bus, which was a fee of a whopping 10 bucks! Our first destination was the Cairns Tropical Zoo where Marcy and Kristen will both be interning. It took us like an hour to get there and once we did it was 8 minutes too late because it had just closed, REALLY? On the up side, on the way home we saw our first real life wallabies in a field :] Now it was off to my work, Airport Surgery Veterinary which we had spotted on the way!!! We stopped, got out and took a look through the window. I cant wait to go in and meet everyone but am SUPER nervous!! We decided to see how long it would take to walk the journey because the public transportation is very expensive here and it was like a 2 min bus ride. It took about 45 min to walk home so I as of now i am on the fence for buying the $200 monthly pass or walking home in the dark?
When we got home we thought it would be a fabulous idea to relax and clear our minds before our first day of work by enjoying the spa in our backyard, WRONG! It smelt a little funny but we decided that it couldn't be too bad, little did we know that it was a breeding ground.. We had been in there for about 15 minutes (the entire time I was trying to keep to myself about how disgusted I was) only to find a floating head rest inside with gunk growing all over it and surrounded by a film of foaming grossness.. We quickly exited the "spa" with quite a few laughs!
The night could only get better after that right, wrong again! The first thing I did after an experience like that was naturally take a shower. Well I return to my room afterwards only to discover that I HAD LOCKED MYSELF OUT!! (I am starting to get a reputation for this) Keep in mind that I look like a hot mess in only my towel, do not have a spare, it is 10:30 at night, and my first day of work is TOMORROW... I vaguely remember them mentioning something about an emergency number so I ran down to Marcy's room and gave it a ring. The poor man on the other line was just falling asleep but the gem that he was came out for of course just a little fee. He was my knight in shinning armor and rescued me from terrible times, I gave him a LARGE tip (which is an uncommon gesture here but I decided in this circumstance was very necessary!!) and I am thinking of bringing to him at the office a little treat :]
Now after all that excitement it is time to rest my head and get my beauty sleep before the big scary first day of work tomorrow, which I probably wont be getting much sleep at all since I am feeling so awfully nervous haha
Until next time :]

Hey Court!
